For over a year, Hawkins has been undertaking
temporary and repair work campus-wide at the University of Canterbury (UC),
with more than 200 people on site at any one time. While the objective is about
returning the campus to some sort of normality, there is no doubt this
additional disruption has stretched frayed nerves even further. So Hawkins
cooked up a storm for students.
Out came the BBQs and on went the sausages
and burgers, a thank you to all students, for gritting their teeth and striving
on within a post earthquake campus. The event was a fantastic success with over
a thousand students participating in the food, fun and games.
David McConnell mucked in as a celebrity
chef, and ENSOC, the UC Engineering Society ably assisted in running the
competitions, the draw card for many students being the chance of winning one
of three official Rugby World Cup balls signed by the All Blacks.
