Quin Henderson, Hawkins Southern Region Manager,
applauds the spirit of the Hawkins family and believes that it is this sense of
family that will be a core element in the rebuild of Christchurch. He
recognises that this spirit does not just extend across his own team and their
families, but encompasses business partnerships, clients and the wider Hawkins
and McConnell Group network well north and south of Canterbury.
The impact of the earthquakes has been
relentless. For many it has been devastating with the loss of loved ones,
destruction of homes and livelihoods. Most New Zealanders have been touched in
some way but for those living in Christchurch there are daily hurdles, physical
or emotional....and these will be ongoing.
The Hawkins Christchurch team was part of
the immediate rescue effort following the devastation of the February 22nd
aftershock. And many continue to be involved in dealing daily with the people
of Christchurch whose homes have to be repaired or rebuilt. Part of their job
is to keep others spirits up.
The sense of family, of being part of and
contributing to the wider community is all-evident. From the daily lunch BBQs
for Hawkins staff, business neighbours and friends that Hawkins provided for weeks
on end; to holiday homes at Hamner Springs to give staff and their families
well deserved breaks; to home - baked morning teas and basic supplies from
Hawkins Auckland and McConnell Group; and the $60,000 raised by Allan Kendrick
across all the McConnell Group companies for St John Christchurch.
